Telecom Companies Promise More Than Rs 74,000 Crore To Restrain Call Drops

Top telecom providers, comprising Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, have promised to invest more than Rs 74,000 Crore to expand and upgrade their infrastructure to restrain call drops, Aruna Sundararajan, the Telecom Secretary, claimed to the media in an interview. Telecom providers lifted problem of non-availability of websites for setting up mobile towers in addition to some other issues.

“Bharti Airtel claimed that they have pumped in Rs 16,000 Crore on infrastructure and will be investing additional Rs 24,000 Crore. Reliance Jio has claimed that they will pump in Rs 50,000 Crore in setting up 1 Lakh towers in the upcoming fiscal,” Sundararajan claimed to the media after meeting senior executives of telecom firms.

Vodafone and also Idea Cellular promised to increase the number of mobile towers in their network. According to data shared by telecom providers with the DoT (Department of Telecom), call drops in southern parts of the nations such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana stand at almost 30–33%, while the worst impacted circles comprise Mumbai, Delhi, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, she claimed.

“We have instructed the telecom providers to take actions where the situation for the call drops is the worst and put those on quick track,” claimed Sundararajan. She claimed that telecom providers gave their scrutiny of call drops that displayed it has stabilized but other issues such as fading of voice call have elevated owing to different problems, comprising some mobile handsets not obeying with needed certification rules.

“Telecom providers claimed that the call drop issue in mobile phones with no certificate of Global Conformity Framework is more in comparison to the certified gadgets. “They lifted the problem of lawful repeaters set up in networks that are affecting call quality and creating interference. We will look into implementing rules more severely,” Sundararajan claimed.
