Brain Signaling Changed Due To Increased Blood Pressure

Six million Australians over the age of 18 have high blood pressure. A total of 4 million Australian adults were found to be suffering with high blood pressure that was either mismanaged or uncontrolled (i.e., not being treated with medicine). Having high blood pressure, or BP, has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. We don’t know exactly how high blood pressure leads to heart disease.

High blood pressure (hypertension) is linked to heart disease, according to experts from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. Overactive sympathetic nervous systems that induce high blood pressure can direct stem cells in bone marrow to produce more WBC (white blood cell) that block blood arteries, according to new research published in Haematologica. Baker Institute Head of Haematopoiesis and Leukocyte Biology, Associate Professor Andrew Murphy, argued that the findings reveal a new epoch in research on heart disease.

Researchers have already developed a smartphone app and technology that can assist in calculating BP more accurately than current cuff technologies. More accurate measurements were developed by researchers at Michigan State University in the United States.

The PhD student at MSU Anand Chandrasekhar told the media that he and his colleagues used the transverse palmer arteriosclerosis (TPA) artery, which runs from the fingertip and is known as the transverse palmer arch artery (TPA).

“When we verified this location, we were excited. Having the ability to use your fingertip makes our method more accessible and lot easier,” stated Chandrasekhar, who is a senior author of the study published in the Science Translational Medicine journal. Two sensors are used in this method. On top of a force sensor, an optical sensor is attached. One centimeter-thick box is attached to the back of the smartphone to hold the other circuitry, including the sensor unit..###
