Commonwealth Youth Awards Has Shortlisted Two Indians
Amongst the 20 finalists for The Commonwealth Youth Awards 2018, two Indians have been shortlisted. The two of them work in the same field of “Gender Equality” while getting shortlisted for the criteria where the young people get recognized for their contribution in their innovative projects that result in impactful efforts on the communities or society.
These 20 finalists have been shortlisted from the entire 400 application in the “Commonwealth Youth Program”. The senior strategist at “Haiyya” the grassroots campaigning organization based at Delhi, Mrinalini Dayal and the Founder, Yogesh Kumar, of the social enterprise “Even Cargo” that promotes gender equality through employment opportunities for women in the field of male presence area like couriering, has been shortlisted from India.
Mrinalini mentioned that she was selected for her work and campaign on “Health over Stigma” and UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 5 that aims at achieving gender equality and women as well as girl empowerment. Her campaign focuses on the access of unmarried women on the services related to sexual health.
Her campaign further challenges the stigma for women of accessing services related to sexual health while creating a safe shelter for women towards the facilities related to reproductive health.
As per the publisher of the Commonwealth, until this year there are 450 young activists who have been trained under the “Health over Stigma” campaign while commenting on “Even Cargo” it stated that it focuses to generate women employment opportunities specifically in the male preserved domain like logistics and self-defense with proper training to every girl and woman.
The shortlisted 20 finalists represent every corner of the world in the Commonwealth 2018 that includes Europe, the Caribbean, and Americas, the Pacific, Asia and Africa. The statement mentions that the awards recognize young people with an age bracket of 15–29 for their outstanding and innovative work in unique projects that created an impact on the communities and society. It further stated that the current year is aimed to celebrate the contribution by the youngsters towards creating a secure, fair and prosperous future.
